Our job is the construction of a non-mechanized car wash and a temporary car parking (2400 square meters about), near Alghero airport, in the agricultural landscape called “Nurra”. In this area is still visible the orthogonal organization system of the land reclamation of early 1900.
Because of the environmental importance of these places and the urban planning restrictions, the intervention fits in a discreet way in the agricultural landscape, avoiding visual and chromatic interruption with all its surrounding.
The strategy is minimal intervention.
Simple fences border our area ensuring maximum visual permeability and without constituting a visual obstruction of the landscape. The ground is covered with gravels and local stabilizers that maintain the permeability of the soil.
The washing area (20x5m) is in washed concrete.
The only new architectural element that rises above the ground is the canopy in cor-ten steel.
This canopy is made by a series of aligned frames to which the horizontal grid is hung; this light orthogonal metal grid hosts shading creepers for a better integration with surrounding.
The main two values of canopy are both be in harmony with the landscape and the principle of reversibility.
The first is found in the reinterpretation by analogy of wooden pergolas that are typical of this zone.
The canopy thus shaped refers to a handmade work.
The principle of reversibility can be traced in the use of the building material like cor-ten steel, and in its appearance as a very mountable object; in fact, all the elements of metal structure are clearly distinguished.
